Reflections on Love is an intimate look at love from both a youthful and experienced perspective. It poses questions on what is believed of love in our youth, and what insight on love is true once a life is fully lived.

This performance will be held in a very casual setting,
an in-studio performance, and is open to all.

Colette Harding, CHCDC Artistic & Executive Director:
Colette Harding is the Artistic Director and Choreographer for the Colette Harding Contemporary Dance Company, based in San Diego, CA. As CHCDC’s Director, Colette has always been inspired to create and express emotions, concepts, observations and stories through dance. To her, movement is the most honest form of human expression. Originally from the East Coast, Colette has choreographed and performed in dance companies across the USA. Recent presentations include a collaboration with Art of Elan at MCASD’s Sherwood Auditorium with ALICE: Re-imagining Wonderland through Music, Dance and Spoken Word. Colette’s choreography has been presented at the SOLA Contemporary Dance Festival, the Florida Dance Festival, by Moving Current Dance Collective, the California Ballet, at The Neurosciences Institute as part of the Performing Arts at The Neurosciences Institute Series, the Vine, the Emerge Modern Choreographers Showcase, the Celebrate Dance Festival, Ray at Night, and many others. Colette has Instructed students, and choreographed for, MiraCosta College, Saddleback College, St. Petersburg College, the University of Tampa, and Eckerd College. She participates in the San Diego Emerging Leaders for the Arts and Culture. Colette graduated with her MFA in Dance from the University of California, Irvine, and is a certified BASI Pilates Instructor currently teaching at the White Light Studio in La Jolla, CA.

Tangocentric:
The TANGOCENTRIC Dance Project is a learning environment where students study, learn and perform. Our dance projects are a unique blend of tango based choreographies and classic dance forms. These dynamic works of contrasting styles create beautiful and thoughtful dance theatre.

Susan Lake, Tangocentric Director:
Susan Lake is a multi-talented visual and performing artist residing in San Diego and Palm Springs, California. The name Susan Lake and the Argentine tango are synonymous throughout southern California. She is the creator of the TANGO BALL, held in San Diego for nine years and producer of the International Argentine Tango Showcase Competition. Susan is currently the Artistic Director for TANGOCENTRIC Dance Project, in residence at Stage 7 School of Dance. Susan has been featured on CNN en Espanol's Detalles Con Sasha highlighting leading Southern California artists. Her storytelling ability through dance is surpassed only by her talent for creating costume artistry that brings her choreographies to life. Susan's headwear designs have been photographed by New York fashion photographer Seth Sabal. Her headwear designs and choreography of Tangolicious...Fashion and Tango! was presented as the closing event of Fashion Week Escondido. Biographies of the Performance Collaborators:

Colette Harding, CHCDC Artistic & Executive Director:

Erica Erenyi, Cellist:
Erica Erenyi received the Master of Music degree in cello performance at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, after completing her undergraduate studies at Biola University in La Mirada, California. Her primary teachers were Anne Williams and Marlin Owen, and she has participated in master classes with Peter Thiemann, Menahem Pressler, and the Ying Quartet, among others. As a chamber musician, Erica has performed abroad in British Columbia, China, and Spain, and in the U.S. in Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Diego. She is active as a freelance musician in San Diego, playing frequently in productions at The Old Globe and the La Jolla Playhouse, educational concerts for children, and chamber music performances, in addition to serving as a substitute with the San Diego Symphony.

Eric Foster, Classical Guitar:
Eric Foster, a California native, gave his debut solo recital thirty years ago in La Paz, Bolivia. He has since lived as a teacher, composer and “gigging” musician in both North and South America. His compositions for solo guitar are compiled on the CD “Paint the Wind”. Original pieces for guitar ensemble are published by Les Productions d’Oz in Canada. Both of his concertos for guitar and orchestra (“A California Concerto” and “Latin Wave Concerto”) were performed in San Diego and Tijuana with Eric as soloist. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from UC Santa Barbara and a Master of Music Degree from San Diego State University. Mr. Foster presently teaches at the University of San Diego, Vista Academy of Visual and Performing Arts and at MiraCosta College in Oceanside.

Emilia Eneva, Flamenco Singer:
Emilia is a strong and passionate singer who performs the rhythms and melodies of traditional Flamenco music. Despite the initial linear influences of a degree in Biotechnology, she surrendered her spirit to the passion found in the deep and mysterious Flamenco arts by moving to Andalusia , Spain . She studied there with well-known Flamenco artists such as Paco Taranto, Esperanza Fernandez, Nazaret Cala, Calixto Sanchez, Ethan Margolis, Ana Gomez, and the Agujetas Family. She has a strong stage presence and a voice of many colors. A member of the Pena Andaluza en California , an organization dedicated to the dissemination of Andalusian culture in CA, Emilia is dedicated to the artistic roots of Flamenco and what it has to teach us about humanity, femininity, and our history. She performs on stages throughout San Diego such as at the Nations Dance Festivals and is mostly seen collaborating with Flamenco Arana and Paloma Arragon Flamenco. You can also catch her at Café Sevilla’s Legendary Flamenco Dinner shows.

Carlos Villatoro, Flamenco Dancer:

Carlos Villatoro brings to San Diego a background rich in dance instruction and performance. A graduate in Danza Folklorica Mexicana from the Escuela Nacional De Bellas Artes in Mexico city, Carlos was honored to dance for former mexican president Miguel De La Madrid at Mexico City's El Palacio de Bellas Artes in 1986. As a child was always surrounded by Flamenco music and dance. His formal instruction in Flamenco began in 1998 after a trip to Spain. Over the years, Carlos studied Flamenco dance with various local and visiting artists such as Cihtli Ocampo "La Gallardi", Lakshmi Basille, Maria Bermudez "La Chacha", Domingo Ortega, Juan Ogalla, Yaelisa, Jose Manuel Ramos "El Oruco", Pastora Galvan,Alegria Suarez and Saray Montoya. He has also studied Flamenco Cante and Baile with Ethan Margolis, Luis Pena, Jorge "el Canastero", and Javier Heredia. In 2006 Carlos was chosen to star as a Flamenco dancer in Carmen with the San Diego Opera. Mr. Villatoro joined Juanita Franco's Academia de Baile Espanol as a Flamenco instructor soon thereafter in 2007. Since then, Carlos has appeared as a Flamenco dancer with the San Diego Opera in Don Quixote and with the Los Angeles Opera in The Barber of Seville. Mr. Villatoro performs professionally in San Diego at venues such as Restaurant Costa Brava, The Turquoise and with Tablao Flamenco.

CHCDC Audition Announcement

The Colette Harding Contemporary Dance Company will be holding Company Auditions for both Female and Male Dancers on Sunday, July 11th, 2010 from 5:00-7:00pm at Stage 7 in San Diego, CA. Dancers chosen will be committed to performances for the 2010-2011 Season, and possibly invited to become permanent CHCDC Company Dancers. CHCDC Dancers are paid for performances according to funding received. Rehearsals are held regularly on Sundays from 5:00-9:00pm and Thursdays from 7:30-9:30pm. Dancers chosen are expected to maintain a high level of Modern and Ballet technique, quickly learn choreographic material, maintain a professional work ethic, and be flexible with the creative process.

ALICE: Re-imagining Wonderland through Music, Dance, and Spoken Word

The Colette Harding Contemporary Dance Company and Art of Élan announces the world premiere of “ALICE: Re-imagining Wonderland through Dance, Music and Spoken Word,” a work for contemporary dance and chamber ensemble that explores The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland through the creativity of a new generation of performing artists. The new work was commissioned by Art of Élan and the Colette Harding Contemporary Dance Company, with new music written by the young and exciting composer Joe Hallman. This performance, enhanced by Asian and European influences, will shed new light on the classic Lewis Carroll story of Alice and her fantastic adventures in Wonderland. The resulting collaboration will reveal the tale of a girl coming into maturity through a journey that mixes both reality and fantasy.

Twilight Desires is a 30 minute contemporary dance work that explores evening thoughts and desires for love. This performance is presented as part of North Park Nights / Ray at Night. Come and enjoy the artwork and festivities displayed on Ray Street and the surrounding area, then come to Stage 7 to enjoy the CHCDC dance work of Twilight Desires. It is a full evening of fun, entertainment, and culture.

Variété will exhibit various dance works choreographed by CHCDC Artistic Director Colette Harding and performed by CHCDC company dancers. Dancers will perform in front of a backdrop of paintings created by San Diego Artist Wilva Ehlers.

The performance will present a dynamic range of repertoire including representations of emotions involved in relationships, our personal journey on acceptance in life and love, and finally, to light, fun, French swing.

Artwork by several San Diego Visual Artists will also be on display on the front terrace, lobby area, of the theater space an hour before each show. This includes Artwork by Wilva Ehlers, Keely Campbell, Hillary Young, Photography by Elazar Harrel, and works by other local San Diego Artists.

Taking Flight

Join CHCDC for the Performance of Taking Flight at The Neuroscience Institute in La Jolla,
and a Post Performance Cocktail Hour Event.
Taking Flight is presented as part of the Neuroscience Institute's Performing Arts Series.

A collaborative work with choreography by CHCDC Artistic Director Colette Harding as performed by CHCDC company dancers, with scientific presentations by Douglas L. Altshuler from the UCR Department of Biology and Elisa Cullaty MA, MSW. This work includes the premiere of music composed by Norman Beede, and the artwork of Keely Campbell.

The event will investigate and discuss various ideas and concepts regarding flight in the areas of science, psychology, and the artistic interpretation of learning to fly in our own lives and beliefs.
